Shabir is Notts County Champion!

The annual Notts County Championships, held at Nottingham High School on 26th and 27th October, was a great success for our players.

Congratulations to Shabir Okhai, who stormed through the field in an unbeaten run to retain the Silver Rook for West Nottingham again! His score of 4.5/5 was unassailable.

In a small field, Shabir had to play all the strong opposition, with the exception of Jon Tait who lost to Armaan Gogia in round 2. His win againt Mike Barnes in round 4 was the decisive result for the title. Armaan withdrew on Saturday so finished on 1pt.

West Nottingham players were successful in other sections. In the U125, Joseph Hurst was equal first, and due to being the best performing junior across the tournament, became Junior County Champion. Like Shabir, he also won £50.

Finally, Jonah Tomsett won the U13s Rapidplay, held on Sunday, with 4.5/5. He too won £50. He is pictured with second placed Richard Lee, whom Jonah beat convincingly in round 4.
