Great turnout at Nottingham Rapidplay!
Over 150 players took part in the resurrected Nottingham Rapidplay 2022, which was held at Nottingham High School on 20th February.
Despite the terrible weather, only a couple of players withdrew, and there was a large contingent representing West Nottingham Chess Club.
In the Major, Stephen Mason was joint-3rd with 4/6, an impressive result given this was his first over the board tournament!
In the Minor, Maksim Krasnov was best placed, sharing the U1375 rating prize and scoring 4.5pts to finish joint-5th. Also in the Minor we had Sebastian Griffin-Young (4pts), who won the Slow Starter prize for the best score of players on 1 or less out of 3. Also playing were Eldars Gulijevs (3.5pts), Dean Stapleton (3pts), Alexandra Arlachova (2.5pts).
Finally, in the Improvers section a bunch of our players finished on 3pts: Isaac Keenan, Yash Handa, Artemijs Gulijevs, Robin Sykes. Jonah Tomsett and Alex Clements were just behind on 2.5pts. Yash and Artemijs also took a share of the Slow Starter prize in this section.
Mention should also be given to Hambel Willow as one of the tournament arbiters, and Simon Scott as controller. In our view it was a very successful day and great to see local chess competitions back in full swing! Look out for the Nottingham Congress on 23-24 April!
