Armaan joint first in Nottingham Rapidplay

Proving again his prowess in rapid chess, Armaan Gogia was unbeatable at the Nottingham Rapidplay, held on Sunday 28th January at Nottingham High School

Armaan finished on 5.5/6, drawing with the joint winner of the Major section, the very experienced and tricky Drag Sudar. He won £75.

Also playing in the Major, Taylor Pearson scored 4/6, and Susie Wang and Lavanya Maladkar both scored 2.5/6.

Another West Nottingham player had a successful campaign: in the Intermediate section, Karam Sangha was joint-second on 4.5/6 and won £40. Hambel Willow was also playing this section, she finished just outside the prizemoney on 4/6, losing in the last round to the winner.

In the Open section, Jonah Willow was equal 3rd with 4.5/6 (sadly no prize money!), while both Anita Somton and Aditya Munshi finished on 3.5/6.

Finally, in the Minor section, some of our younger juniors tested their mettle: Kian Chan was highest placed on 3.5/6, both Joseph Hurst and Alexandra Arlachova scored 3/6.

It was very encouraging to see 11 of our junior players testing themselves in open competition, this is how they will improve their matchplay the fastest. Well done to all and good luck in your next endeavours!
