Senith qualifies for British Championship!
At the annual Nottingham Congress, Senith's excellent performance also made him joint second in the Open.
The 48th Nottingham Congress was held on May 11th and 12th at Nottingham High School, later than its usual date in March/April.
At stake was the MCCU nomination for the British Championships, to be held in Liverpool this summer.
Although the Open was won by Mark Hebden, as a GM he was already qualified. Senith Gunarathne was the highest placed eligibile Midlands player. At 13 he is the youngest Notts player since Jonah Willow played aged 12 in 2015 - at a time when qualification routes were more open than today.
Coming joint second, Senith also won £56.
Other West Nottingham players were at the Congress.
In the Major (U1900), Jonah Tomsett scored 3pts, and Sebastian Griffin-Young 2pts.
In the Intermediate (U1700), Miheli Gunarathne finished on 2pts.
In the Minor (U1500), Senith and Miheli's father, Dhamindra Gunarathne, was joint first on 4pts and won £119!
In the Improvers (U1300), Isaac Keenan was 5th= on 3pts and Elizabeth de Bono on 2pts.
