Nottingham Chess Congress returns after three years
Having had to miss the 2020 and 2021 editions, it was great to see our local congress back, held at Nottingham High School on 23-24 April
The event included great success for Jonah Willow, who came first in the Open, scoring 4.5pts which included beating GM Mark Hebden and drawing with IM Brandon Clarke, both with the black pieces. He picked up £750 first prize.
In the Major, Stephen Mason was joint-7th with 3/5, while in the Intermediate Eldars Gulijevs also scored 3pts. Maksim Krasnov finished on 1pt although he didn't play the final 2 rounds.
In the Minor, Sebastian Griffin-Young scored 2.5pts.
Finally, in the Improvers, Yash Handa was joint-5th on 3pts, Artemijs Gulijevs 2pts and Alex Clements 0.5pts.
As in the Nottingham Rapidplay, Hambel Willow and Simon Scott were part of the arbiting team.
A list of entrants and their scores can be seen on the Notts Chess Association website.
