Good showing at Nottingham Megafinal
Many of our juniors took part in the UK Chess Challenge Nottingham Megafinal, held at Nottingham High School on 13th May
Over 180 entrants, many from outside our county, took part this year. As usual, a 6-round rapidplay in age group sections, with players scoring 3.5pts or more qualifying to the Gigafinals. Trophies were awarded to the winners, with medals for second the third.
In the U8s, Miheli Gunarathne was best girl, and second overall with 5pts.
In the U10s, Robin Sykes was best boy, and joint second overall in an age section dominated by girls! Also qualified: Harri Singh Aujla.
In the U11s, Aryan Nair was joint second on 4.5pts. Also qualified: Artemijs Gulijevs.
In the U12s, Senith Gunarathne was first with a perfect 6/6!
In the U14s, Eldars Gulijevs was also unstoppable with 6pts!
In the U18s, Alfie Abraham was second overall with 5pts. Also qualified: Dean Stapleton, Tomas Matthews-Asensio, Alex Clements and Jonah Tomsett
