Adi draws with SuperGM Wesley So at London Chess Classic!

In a stunning result, Adi Munshi took part in a masterclass with one of the top players in the world, and was the only player in his group to get a result!

The Masterclass, which took place before the chess stars started competing in the London Chess Classic from 1-11 December, took part at Google HQ in London (where round 1 took place). The Notts league will be quaking in their boots - well done Adi!

Anita Somton was also lucky enough to be in this prestigious event. They were both treated to a game against the GM and a group session to inspire them to greater things.

In addition to the main tournament, the London Chess Classic is a festival of chess with a number of events held in Olympia Kensington.

Adi also participated in the FIDE Open, a very strong tournament. He played the first six rounds, scoring 2pts.

Over the weekend there were a number of FIDE-rated rapidplays and a Superblitz tournament including top GMs.

In the U2050 Rapidplay (equivalent to an ECF Major), Jonah Willow finished joint second, unbeaten on 5/6. He won £125 prize money.

Anita Somton played in the U1825 Rpaidplay, and was also unbeaten. She scored 4.5/6 to place joint-5th.

Adi and Jonah also took part in the Superblitz, which had 320 entries! This was a 15-round group stage followed by a knockout from the last 32.

Jonah won the grading prize in Group M, as despite his slow start he beat two IMs and scored 10.5/14. He won £100. Adi finished on 8/14 in Group D.

Yet again a very successful event which gave plenty of entertainment for non-players (watching live games in the auditorium, live commentary and so on). Links to all the events, including reports, crosstables and photos, can be found on the London Chess Classic website.
