Mid-season review of our league teams
With half of our fixtures completed and a break for January, we see how our teams have fared.
Overall we have seen steady progress in our team performances.
West Nottingham 1, which mostly consists of juniors from our old WN2 following the departures of Jonah, Shabir and Antony, has played steadily and performed well when our best team has been able to play. They are mid-table in Division 2, with 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. Top player has been Alexandra Arlachova with 75%, proving she was ready to step up to our first team. Hambel Willow has taken on the job of player captain and got the best out of our available players.
West Nottingham 2, in Div 3, have done even better, currently top of the table and unbeaten, with 2 wins and 3 draws. Many thanks to Ed Jones for stepping up to captain the team. Mike Herbert has been invaluable, scoring 2/2, and newcomer Stephen Mason has also been impressive with 90%, from someone who has never played over the board chess before!
West Nottingham 3 is our younger junior squad, a mixture of newbies and more experienced players. They are currently 3rd in Div 5 with 1 win, 3 draws and 1 loss. Top player with 100% from 4 games is Eldars Gulijevs, playing board 1 and a real find for the season. David Gretton has managed the player combinations with great success, even stepping in himself for a late replacement.
So overall a very promising start and great to be back on the chess circuit again. Let's hope for some more competitive chess next year!
