Jonah Willow, joint British U18 Champion 2019!
Playing in the British Championships in Torquay from 26th July to 4th August, Jonah had a great run.
The Under 18 title is awarded for best score in the main championships, so Jonah was up against a number of titled players vying for British Champion. He only lost two games, to GMs Justin Tan and Nick Pert, and finished on 5.5/9 with a win against a WGM in the final round.
Jonah was also joint runner-up in the U21s, winning around £80.
Some of our other members were also playing various events at the British Championships.
In the Major Open, Armaan Gogia performed above his rating to score 4.5/9.
Playing the 5-round U1750, Hambel Willow was =4th with 4/5 and won £8.33(!). Hambel also played the weekend Soanes and finished on 2.5/5.
Congratulations to all the players. A prizewinners list, with links to all the results, is on the British Chess Championships website.
