Strong play from Jonah at Hastings
Playing in the Hastings Masters from 28th December to 6th January, Jonah had started off in impressive style.
In Round 1 he defeated GM Simon Williams, which eventually won him best game prize, then played 5 more titled players in a row, defeating an IM and drawing until losing round 6. Apart from a blip in round 7, he was on course for an IM norm! Sadly the loss in round 8 from a winning postition stopped this chance, but he finished with 2 wins to finish on 6/10.
Also playing at the festival, Andrew Watson scored 2.5/5 in the Christmas C, followed by 3.5/5 (joint 3rd) in New Year Morning C. Hambel Willow played in New Year Afternoon B and finished on 2/5.
Jonah also competed in an evening 9-round blitz, and was joint-3rd on 6.5/9.
All the results can be found on the Hastings Chess website. Well done to all the players!
