Prizes galore at Coventry and Doncaster
The last weekend in February was exceedingly rewarding for some of our players.
In the Coventry Open, Feb 22nd-23rd, Sebastian Griffin-Young was first in the Major with an impressive score of 4.5pts out of 5. Sebastian won £180.
Senith Gunarathne played in the Open. He was 4th, unbeaten on 3.5pts.
In the Intermediate, Miheli Gunarathne scored 1.5pts, whilst in the Minor, Dhamindra Gunarathne also finished on 3.5pts, equal 5th after 4 players tied on 4pts. The event was ECF and FIDE-rated.
Meanwhile, about the same distance from Nottingham in a different direction, the annual Doncaster Congress took place from Feb 21st-23rd. Jonah Tomsett was joint first in the Intermediate with 4.5pts and winning all his games! Prize money was very generous, Jonah pocketed £325 for his efforts.
